WEB 2.0 (Part 1)

Dear colleagues

On 10 Nov 2008 (Tue), we learnt some of the useful web 2.0 tools.

Just a recap, we learnt about:
1) WEB 2.0, why is it called "Web 2.0"
We viewed the following video that introduced web 2.0.

2) Google Mail

We started the hands on with the creation of a google mail (gmail) account. With a google (mail) account, we would be able to explore more web 2.0 tools provided by google (a.k.a. google apps, such as google docs, blogs etc.)

You may sign up a gmail account at: http://mail.google.com/mail/signup

Need help in signing an account? You may wish to visit: http://mail.google.com/support/

Let the following video share with you the advantages of gmail.

3) RSS Feeds

We learnt about the power of RSS

We can use the "Mail" application in our macbook (with mac OS leopard) to add RSS feeds. To learn how to do so, click here (A Just-in-time training at GRACE Blogsite).

Alternatively, you can also use an aggregator to track your favorite blogs.
To learn more about google reader, you may visit: http://www.google.com/support/reader/

4) Google docs-- Sharing of document online (Word processor, spreadsheet & Slides)

Introduction to google doc:

How to use google docs? You may visit: http://www.google.com/google-d-s/tour1.html

More help on the specific applications of google docs can be found at http://documents.google.com/support/

5) Creating an online form using google docs (which we thought will be a good tool to collect feedback & formative assessment (find out what students' strengths & weaknesses on their content.))

Still remember how to create a form? http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=87809&topic=15166

6) Online storage with applications -- www.box.net
You may visit GRACE blogsite at http://grace-mshs.blogspot.com/2008/10/online-file-sharing.html where I also mentioned about box.net.
